EVENTS ON FAIZ IN LONDON

Faiz Centenary National Organising Committee (UK) is supporting many organisations and comrades to organise events to celebrate the life and poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz throughout Britain. This website is one of the main vehicles to support and publicise these events. Over twenty political, artistic and cultural  events will be taking this year and it is hoped that the website will be a useful vehicle to inform wider community in Britain as well as rest of the world.

We request cultural, literary and social organisations to make use of the website to publicise their events. We also send regular alert mailing to hundreds of people and organisations to highlight forthcoming events.

London                    Faiz Ahmed Faiz: Poet in the City

 

Venue: Hall One, King’s Place, 90 York Way, London N1 9AG

 

An event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, one of the most prominent poets of the Indian sub-continent, who wrote poems in both Urdu and Punjabi, and whose humane work was filled with love, dignity and resistance to injustice, was celebrated by Poet in the City.

 

The event featured: Javed Majeed, professor of post-colonial studies at Queen Mary University of London, and an expert on Urdu poetry, will provide a biographical introduction and will speak about Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s great contributions to poetry and to world culture.

Poems by Faiz read by Saqlain Imam in Urdu, who now works for the BBC’s Urdu World Service in London. Actress and playwright Sudha Bhuchar, Artistic Director at Tamasha Theatre company, recited poems in English. Faiz’s poems were recited in Punjabi by renowned Punjabi poet and translator, Amarjit Chandan whose latest book is ‘Sonata for four hands’. Swati Natekar, a renowned vocalist from a hereditary musical family in Bombay, accompanied by distinguished tabla player Hanif Khan, sang poems by Faiz.

London                   Tribute to Faiz Ahmed Faiz

 

 Organised by Urdu Club London

 

Glowing tribute was paid to renowned poet and humanist Faiz Ahmed Faiz at a function held in connection with his centennial birth anniversary by Urdu Club London.

 

The event featured: Raza Ali Abadi, Patron of Faiz Centenary National Organising Committee UK. Jawed Qureshi, Asaf Jilani, Aisha Ghazi (Urdu Club), Dr Rizwan, Dr Jawed Sheikh (Urdu Markaz), Faizan Rana (NUPSA) and Naeemur Rehman, Coordinator Urdu Club.

Anam Farooq presented English version of Faiz’s ‘Dua’.

British Asian singer Devdutt Joshi enthralled the audience with Faiz’s ghazals

Faiz Ahmad Faiz was one of the leading and internationally recognised poets from Pakistan. 2011 is centennial year of Faiz Ahmed Faiz. His admirers are celebrating his centennial birthday across the world. Faiz Centenary Celebration Committee UK has chalked out a colorful event ‘Faiz Mela’ to pay homage to the great poet and humanist in a befitting manner.

Rehman, former president HRCP, Iftikhar Arif poet and chair Pakistan Academy of Letters, prominent writer and intellectual Tariq Ali, Faiz's daughters Salima Hashmi and Muneza Hashmi, prominent artist and singer Zia Mohiuddin, Laal Band, and many more.
